WGU Winter 2010 Commencement

More than 120 graduates from 27 states will attend the Winter Commencement Ceremony for Western Governors University on February 20, 2010 at Kingsbury Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ms. Hilary Pennington, Director of Education, Postsecondary Success, and Special Initiatives for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will deliver the commencement address.

Western Governors University will award degrees to more than 900 graduates from 48 states, the largest class of graduates to date. The degrees include 530 undergraduate and 458 graduate degrees.

It’s Not Too Late to Donate!

WGU is still accepting tax-deductible donations to match up to a total of $50,000

Western Governors University staff and students have donated more than $13,500 to support the American Red Cross relief effort in Haiti. With the WGU match, the WGU community has committed $27,200 to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund. Thanks to everyone who has given so generously!

Your Donation Will Make a Difference!

Donations made through WGU will be given to the Red Cross Haiti Relief Effort to provide families basic items for post-disaster living.  The Red Cross has already begun to distribute these items, including blankets, bed mats, tarps, personal hygiene items, cooking utensils and water vessels. WGU and AARP to Enhance Scholarship Program

Western Governors University and the AARP Foundation have expanded the WGU Educational Assistance Program to offer an additional 114 scholarships to students over 40. The need-based program is designed to help adults over 40 complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree in high-demand fields, especially Education and Nursing. To date, more than 122 scholarships, with a combined total value of $575,000, have been awarded.
